Crochet washcloths are great projects to make for a lot of reasons. They are small, so they are perfect travel projects. A washcloth crochet pattern is a wonderful way to practice new stitches. And everyone can use them.
Crocheted washcloths are also great for gifts. You can easily pull together a self-care kit with lotions and face masks, maybe a candle, a bar of handmade soap or a good book – little things to help a person destress and treat themselves. Adding a crochet washcloth or two to the mix is a great way to add a homemade touch to a last-minute gift.
These washcloths are perfect for pampering. They’re stitched up using a beautiful and easy lemon peel stitch and are made out of 100% cotton yarn. They are perfect for mild exfoliation and sensitive skin. The washcloths even have little loops to hang them up. And they’re easy to care for because they’re machine washable and dryer safe.

These are a great addition to a gift basket, or use them as a stocking stuffer. Whatever you choose, they’ll be appreciated.
Of course you could keep them for yourself and use them as washcloths or crochet dishcloths to bring a little fancy touch to your chores.
What Type of Yarn Do You Use to Crochet Washcloths?
A crochet washcloth is usually small in size so, with a ball, a skein, or a hank of worsted weight cotton yarn, you will be able to make two washcloths with this crochet washcloth pattern.
Cotton yarn is best for this washcloth crochet pattern. If you use acrylic or wool yarn, your washcloths' stitches might not hold up well after several uses. Wool yarn can even felt if you use the washcloth with hot water, and acrylic yarns can be scratchy on your skin.
With cotton yarn, your washcloths absorb water better and are still firm and looking good after multiple uses. Also, since these crochet washcloths are meant to be part of a self-care kit, you want to give washcloth gifts that are soft and gentle on the skin.
We used worsted weight yarn for this project. If you use yarn that is larger or smaller, your project will likewise be larger or smaller unless you adjust the number of stitches used in the project. You will also need to be aware of using a hook size that corresponds to the size of your yarn.

Can a Beginner Crochet a Washcloth?
This tutorial is perfect for beginners because you will only need knowledge of the basic crochet stitches to learn the new stitch that is used in this crochet pattern. The combination of single crochet stitch and double crochet stitch makes the special stitch lemon peel, which creates a great texture for the washcloth.
You can also use the lemon peel stitch to crochet other gifts like a baby blanket for a baby shower, a table runner for a housewarming gift, or a cardigan, fingerless gloves, or a scarf for a Mother's Day gift. Imagination is your limit!
