This is a great hat to put together for a baby shower gift. It is also easy to change the colors for a boy, girl, or neutral gender style.
I’m not sure about you but I have always found the cluster stitch to be easy, just grab your super fine weight yarn and E hook – it’s time to get started!
Skill Level: Easy
Materials:
Yarn:
- 95 yds super fine weight yarn
Hook:
- US size E/4 (3.50mm) crochet hook or size needed to match gauge
Notions:
- Scissors
- Yarn needle
Gauge: 7 clusters x 10 rows = 4”
Size: To fit head circumference: 14”; Height: 5.75”

Special Stitches:
Beginning cluster (beg cl): [Yo, insert hook in indicated st and pull up a loop, yo and pull through 2 loops on hook] twice, yo and pull through all 3 loops on hook.
3 dc cluster (cl): [Yo, insert hook in indicated st and pull up a loop, yo and pull through 2 loops on hook] 3 times, yo and pull through all 4 loops on hook.

Note: Join rounds where indicated with a sl st in the first st of the rnd.
With A, ch 3.
Rnd 1: Beg cl in 3rd ch from hook, 5 cl in same ch, join, sl st in each of next 2 sts. (6 clusters)
Rnd 2: Ch 2, (beg cl, cl) in next st, 2 cl in each st around, join, sl st in each of next 2 sts. (12 clusters)
Rnd 3: Ch 2, (beg cl, cl) in next st, cl in next st, [2 cl in next st, cl in next st] around, join, sl st in each of next 2 sts. (18 clusters)
Rnd 4: Ch 2, (beg cl, cl) in next st, cl in next st, [2 cl in next st, cl in each of next 2 sts] around, join, sl st in each of next 2 sts. (24 cluster sts)
Rnd 5: Ch 2, (beg cl, cl) in next st, cl in next st, [2 cl in next st, cl in each of next 11 sts] around, join, sl st in each of next 2 sts. (26 clusters)
Rnds 6-13: Ch 2, beg cl in next st, cl in each st around, join, sl st in each of next 2 sts.

You really need a video to help new people with the st. There a lot of us new people out there. I have twins that I could make these for but I don’t know how to do the cluster. Oh well back to YouTube.
