Materials

Extra soft worsted weight yarn

  • We recommend Lion Brand, Vanna's Choice.
  1. Black
  2. White
  • 1-3 lb: ~ 17 yards of yarn for hat only, not for add-ons
  • 3-5 lb: ~34 yards of yarn for hat only, not for add-ons
  • 6-8 lb: ~43 yards of yarn for hat only, not for add-ons
  • 9-11 lb (Newborn): ~51 yards of yarn for hat only, not for add-ons

Bulky-5 yarn

  • White fur yarn

G-6 (4.00mm) crochet hook

2 small black buttons for eyes

Small pom pom maker

Fabric scissors

Yarn needle, to weave ends

Gauge

3 dc stitches x 2 rows is 1″

Starting with black yarn,

ch 3

Row 1: 11 dc in 3rd ch from hook, join in top of first dc (12 sts)

Cut yarn and change to white yarn.

Row 2: ch 2, 2 dc in each st around, join in top of first dc (23 sts)

Cut yarn and change to black yarn.

Row 3: ch 2, 2 dc in first st, dc in next 2 sts, *2 dc in next st, dc in next 2 sts* repeat * to * around dc in next st, join in top of first dc (30 sts)

Cut yarn and change to white yarn.

Row 4: ch 2, dc in each st around, join in top of first dc (30 sts)

Cut yarn and change to black yarn.

Nose

With black yarn,

ch 7

Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in remaining sts, turn (7 sts)

Rows 2-3: ch 1, sc in each st across, turn (7 sts)

Edging: ch 1, sc in each st around, 2 sc in each corner st, join in first st of round, cut yarn, fasten off, weave ends (7 sts)

  • with white yarn and a yarn needle
  • make “x” in each upper corners, cut yarn, tie ends, weave ends
  • with black yarn and a yarn needle
  • attach the nose a little above the ribbing of the hat

Ears/Pom Poms (Make 2)

  • with black yarn and pom pom maker
  • make 2 black pom poms
  • attach pom poms to top, sides of hat

Bows

  1. Using this bow pattern with white worsted weight yarn and G hook
  2. attach the bow with a yarn needle just below each ear/pom pom

Fur Hair

  1. with white fur yarn and a pom pom maker
  2. make a loose pom pom
  3. attach pom pom between the 2 black pom poms

Eyes

  • with white yarn, a yarn needle, and 2 small black buttons
  • attach the buttons as eyes just above the nose
