Newborn Flapper Hat Crochet Pattern

I call this hat the Newborn Flapper Hat because it reminds me of a flapper hat, although most people would probably call it a sun hat. I guess it could be either. Light worsted weight yarn (3-Light)

  1. Light pink

I-9 (5.50mm) crochet hook

1″ button

Fabric scissors

Yarn needle, to weave ends

Gauge

3 dc stitches x 2 rows is 1″

*Change the hook size to obtain the gauge.

  • (11 sts) means how many stitches you should have at the end of the row. That count does NOT include the chain.
  • You may want to add a double crochet row or 2 if you wish to make it longer.

Hat

Starting with light pink yarn,

Round 1: ch 3, 9 dc in 3rd ch from hook, join in first dc of round (9 sts)

Round 2: ch 2, 2 dc in each st around, join in first dc of round (18 sts)

Round 3: ch 2, 2 dc in first st, dc in next st, *2 dc in next st, dc in next st* repeat * to * 7 more times around, join in first dc of round (27 sts)

Round 4: ch 2, 2 dc in first st, dc in next 2 sts, *2 dc in next st, dc in next 2 sts* repeat * to * 7 more times around, join in first dc of round (36 sts)

Round 5: ch 2, 2 dc in first st, dc in next 6 sts, *2 dc in next st, dc in next 6 sts* repeat * to * 3 more times around, dc in next st, join in first dc of round (41 sts)

Round 6-9: ch 2, dc in each st around, join in first dc around (41 sts)

Round 10: ch 2, 2 dc in first st, dc in next 4 sts, *2 dc in next st, dc in next 4 sts* repeat * to * 6 more times around, dc in next st, join in first dc of round (49 sts)

Round 11: ch 2, 2 dc in first st, dc in next 2 sts, *2 dc in next st, dc in next 2 sts* repeat * to * 14 more times around, dc in next st, join in first dc of round, cut yarn, fasten off, weave ends (55 sts)

  1. Flip bottom of hat up
  2. With light pink yarn and a 1″ button
  3. Attach the button to the flipped up area
