It's that time of month again! Come meet my friend Erica Dietz from 5 Little Monsters, as we sit here drinking our coffee, and playing with our hooks and yarn!
I will ask the questions, and Erica will tell us all about things crochet. I can't think of a better way to spend my morning!
Erica Dietz: Sounds great, let's get started
What is the first project you ever made? I honestly don't remember the first thing I ever crocheted. I think it may have been a play kitchen set, like a little dishcloth, potholder, and towel topper. I remember my mom helping my older sister make one and I wanted to make one too.
What is your favorite crochet hook? I always use Boye hooks, I like that I can get them anywhere because I am really good at losing hooks.
What is your favorite yarn? It depends on the project that I am working on, Red Heart With Love is one of my favorites because it is pretty soft, affordable, and comes in a pretty good variety of colors.
When did you start crocheting? My mom taught me to crochet when I was a little kid, then I did some crocheting as a teenager but at that point I think I preferred sewing. I didn't really crochet much for a while after that but then after I had my third baby I started to pick it up again. I think that was the point that I realized that there was a lot you could do with crochet. It was a perfect creative outlet for me at that time because it was so hard to find time to sit down at the sewing machine with little kids around but crochet was portable, I could take it anywhere with me. I didn't need to be stuck in one place. Since then it has become something that I love to do.
Where is your favorite place to crochet and why? Probably sitting on the couch or on my bed. Wherever is comfortable and a lot of times I will have Netflix playing while I work.
What is your most favorite project you ever made and why? Last year I made a crocheted nativity and that is probably my favorite project ever. I love nativities anyway so to have one that I made was really cool. Even better was the fact that I made it as part of a competition that I was in as my final project and it won.
What is your favorite crochet stitch? Lately I have been really into post stitches, I love the different textures you can make with them.
What would be your crochet, dream come true? I think my dream is to be able to turn my blog and my crochet designing into a significant income for my family.
When did you know crochet was a passion of yours? I have always been a crafty person but like I said earlier, I really got back into crocheting after my third baby was born and it was exactly the creative outlet that I needed at that point in my life and it has been a passion of mine ever since that time.
What crochet designer do you admire most? I would probably say Tamara Kelly from Moogly just because she was one of the first crochet bloggers that I started following.
Do you have any advice for crocheters? I don't know, I guess just have fun with it and don't be afraid to try new things. I love to play around with different stitches and shapes. You can crochet just about anything.
