This 4th Of July Braided Bib is perfect for a July baby!

Materials

Worsted weight yarn (4-medium)

I-9 (5.50mm) crochet hook

Fabric scissors

Yarn needle, to weave ends

Gauge

7 hdc stitches x 5 rows is 6″

*Change the hook size to obtain the gauge.

ch  18
Row 1: hdc in 3rd ch from hook, hdc in each st, turn
Row 2: ch 2, 2 hdc in next st, hdc in next 14 sts, 2 hdc in next st, turn
Row 3: ch 2, 2 hdc in next st, hdc in next 16 sts, 2 hdc in next st, turn
Row 4-14: ch 2, hdc in each st, turn
Row 15: ch 2, hdc in next 5 sts, turn
Row 16: ch 2, hdc dec in next st, hdc in next st, hdc dec in next st, turn
Row 17: ch 2, hdc in next st, hdc dec in next st, turn

Row 18: ch 2, hdc dec, turn, slst down tab, slst in next 10 sts, turn

Row 19: ch 2, hdc dec, hdc in next st, hdc dec using next 2 sts, turn

Row 20: ch 2, hdc dec, hdc in next st, hdc dec using next 2 sts, turn

Row 21: ch 2, hdc dec, sc around evenly, cut yarn, fasten off, weave ends

Braids

  1. cut 6 3″ strands of yarn
  2. take 3 strands of yarn together, and through the tip sides of the bib so 1 1/2″ of yarn is on each side
  3. knot the strands of yarn together toward the tip
  4. braid yarn all the way down and knot bottom of braid
